Mulch the Lawnmower by Scott Nelson
Mulch the Lawnmower is a small, push-mower who shares the garage with Rider, a large riding lawnmower. Rider cuts the grass at the baseball stadium, which is a big and important job. Mulch cuts the grass at home, and although he always does a good job, never thinks he has a chance to see the big, beautiful baseball stadium.

On the day before the most important baseball game in town, Rider breaks down and can’t mow the grass at the stadium. Everyone is upset and worried about what to do. The only choice is to let Mulch cut the grass at the stadium, but no one thinks Mulch can do the job – he’s too small and the stadium is too big.

But Mulch gives it a try, and does a wonderful job cutting the grass at the stadium in time for the big game. But even more important, Mulch finds and barely avoids running over the missing part that fell off of Rider. Mulch saves the players from getting hurt on the broken part, helps fix his friend Rider, and pulls off a fabulous grass cutting job that was supposed to be too big and hard for a little guy like him.

Mulch the Lawnmower is a story that teaches children you never know what you can accomplish until you try, and that it doesn’t matter how big you are. It’s how big your heart is that matters.
